Legionnaires' Disease?
Legionnaires' disease is a severe form of pneumonia caused by the Legionella bacteria. It was first identified in 1976, when an outbreak affected attendees of an American Legion convention in Philadelphia. Since then, Legionnaires' disease has continued to pose a significant public health concern.
Legionella bacteria are not contagious from person to person. It thrives in water systems such as hot tubs, air conditioning systems, grocery store mist machines, and plumbing systems. When individuals inhale water droplets or mist contaminated with Legionella, they can become infected. Symptoms of Legionnaires' Disease may include a high fever, cough, shortness of breath, muscle aches, and headaches.
